Agartala, Nov 4: Seventy rural youths from Tripura have started a 90-day skill development programme under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) 2.0, aimed at enhancing their employability and facilitating access to jobs in the organised sector.
The training programme was formally inaugurated through a Batch Freezing Ceremony at the training centre of CLR Facilities Pvt Ltd in Khayerpur, Agartala.
The participants, drawn from different districts of the state, have been enrolled in two batches of the Retail Sales Associate course, which seeks to equip them with industry-oriented skills and prepare them for employment in the retail and service sectors.
Under the residential training model, the participants will receive free accommodation, meals, study materials, uniforms and tablets, besides other educational support. Separate hostel facilities have been arranged for male and female trainees.
Officials said the initiative was designed to go beyond classroom-based learning by providing rural youngsters with practical skills and opportunities for sustainable employment.
After completing the course, the trainees will be eligible for placement opportunities in organised retail outlets, shopping malls, airports and other customer service-oriented establishments across the country.
The programme was attended by Tarit Kanti Chakma, Chief Executive Officer of Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) and Chief Operating Officer (Skills), along with the state head of CLR Facilities Pvt Ltd.
During the ceremony, the newly enrolled participants were handed books, uniforms, tablets and other learning materials required for the course.
Officials said DDU-GKY 2.0 focuses on bridging the gap between rural youth and industry requirements by providing market-oriented training aligned with employers’ needs.
The initiative also seeks to improve access to organised-sector employment, promote economic self-reliance and help young people from rural backgrounds secure stable wage-based livelihoods.
Participants from various districts expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity, saying the programme would help them acquire professional skills and explore employment prospects beyond their immediate surroundings.
The latest batch is part of Tripura’s efforts to expand skill development initiatives and improve employment opportunities for rural youth, enabling them to compete in the national job market.
The programme is expected to strengthen the state’s efforts to transform rural job seekers into skilled professionals through structured training and industry-linked placement opportunities.
