Agartala, Oct 9 : Suman Adhikari, an associate professor and officiating principal of Kanchanpur Government Degree College in North Tripura, has been included in the 2026 list of the world’s top 2 per cent scientists published by Stanford University and academic publisher Elsevier, according to information available on his research profile.
Adhikari specialises in supramolecular chemistry, inorganic chemistry and coordination chemistry. His research also focuses on developing and studying metal-based compounds with potential applications in cancer treatment.
According to the ranking details provided, he holds a global position of 683,099 in the relevant research subfield, with an H-index of 11 and an Hm-index of 3.
The ranking uses bibliometric indicators derived from the Scopus database to evaluate researchers’ scientific contributions and the impact of their published work across various disciplines and specialised fields.
Adhikari’s research output includes more than 80 research papers, three edited books, 10 book chapters and two Indian patents, according to the information provided.
Before joining Kanchanpur Government Degree College, he served in the Chemistry Department of Dharmanagar Government Degree College, also located in North Tripura.
His inclusion in the list has drawn attention to scientific research undertaken at higher education institutions in Tripura, particularly government-run colleges, where academics may face limitations in research infrastructure and laboratory facilities.
According to the information provided, Adhikari is the first researcher working at a government degree college in Tripura to feature on the list. However, this claim could not be independently verified.
The Stanford-Elsevier ranking assesses scientists using standardised citation-based indicators, including measures related to research publications and citations. These indicators are intended to measure the influence of researchers’ work within their respective scientific fields.
Adhikari’s research in supramolecular and coordination chemistry, particularly his studies on metal-based compounds, forms the core of his scientific contributions.
His recognition highlights the potential for academic institutions outside major universities and established research centres to contribute to scientific advancement. It also underscores the role of college faculty in pursuing specialised research alongside teaching and administrative responsibilities.
The achievement could encourage students and early-career researchers in Tripura to explore scientific research and pursue advanced studies in specialised fields of chemistry.
The ranking details and the claim that Adhikari is the first researcher from a government degree college in Tripura to receive this recognition are based on the information provided and have not been independently verified.
