Agartala, September 24: With the September 28 Village Committee elections approaching, State Election Commissioner Dr P. K. Chakraborty on Thursday reviewed security, logistics and other arrangements in North Tripura along with Director General of Police (in-charge) G.S. Rao.
The officials began their visit by inspecting the Strong Room at Jubarajnagar RD Block and the Counting Hall at Balidhum S.B. School. They examined the facilities and assessed arrangements for the secure handling of election materials, polling and counting.
The SEC and DGP-in-charge subsequently held a review meeting at the Conference Hall of the Office of the District Magistrate and Collector, North Tripura. Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai, Additional SP, Election Observer, Additional District Magistrate and Collector (PP), Returning Officers, Assistant Returning Officers and Sub-Divisional Police Officers were present.
During the meeting, officials provided updates on the preparations being made for the polls. Security deployment, logistical requirements, monitoring systems and other election-related arrangements were among the issues reviewed.
Dr Chakraborty emphasised the need for close coordination among the departments concerned and directed officials to complete all pending arrangements to facilitate a free, fair and peaceful election.
Security deployment and monitoring mechanisms were also examined as part of the review, with focus on ensuring effective oversight of the electoral process on polling day.
The North Tripura visit formed part of the Election Commission’s ongoing assessment of district-level preparations for the Village Committee elections.
Polling is scheduled for September 28, while votes will be counted on October 5.
