Agartala, September 24: The Neermahal Jal Utsav 2026 will take place at Melaghar from October 7 to 9, with cultural performances, traditional sports and tourism-related activities planned around the historic Neermahal and Rudrasagar Lake.
Preparations for the annual event were reviewed by Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman at a meeting held at the Melaghar Municipal Council conference hall on Thursday. The minister examined the arrangements and instructed officials to complete the required work well ahead of the festival.
The three-day programme is expected to include performances based on Mansamangal, along with boat races, swimming competitions and yoga events.
Highlighting the importance of the festival, Barman said the Jal Utsav reflects the longstanding association between Rudrasagar Lake and the communities in the surrounding areas. He said the water body and its ecosystem are closely linked with local livelihoods, traditional practices and folk culture.
The minister said the festival would also strengthen efforts to showcase Neermahal as a key tourism attraction in Tripura. The historic water palace and Rudrasagar’s natural surroundings will serve as the setting for events highlighting the area’s architectural and cultural heritage.
The organisers expect participation from visitors within Tripura as well as from outside the state. Cultural programmes, sporting competitions and the scenic landscape surrounding Neermahal are likely to be among the key attractions.
Barman urged people to attend the festival with their families and explore the cultural and natural heritage of Neermahal and Rudrasagar.
The annual festival has developed into a platform combining tourism promotion with cultural activities and community participation, while bringing greater attention to the historical and ecological value of Rudrasagar and its surrounding areas.
