Agartala, September 20: The State Election Commission (SEC) has announced the schedule for finalising polling stations for the upcoming urban local body elections in Tripura, covering all 21 urban local bodies, including the Agartala Municipal Corporation.
SEC Secretary Anurag Sen said district municipal election officers, who are the respective district magistrates and collectors, published the draft list of polling stations on September 17.
“The notification for publication of polling stations has already been issued. The draft publication was done on September 17,” Sen said.
According to the schedule, voters and other stakeholders will be able to submit claims and objections against the draft list from September 21. The concerned urban local body authorities will examine and dispose of the claims and objections by September 23.
The final list of polling stations is scheduled to be published on September 25.
“We will also have the number of polling stations for the upcoming urban local body elections by then,” Sen said.
The polling station exercise is a key preparatory step ahead of the urban local body elections in the state. The SEC is simultaneously engaged in preparations for the Village Committee elections, with both electoral processes progressing through their respective stages.
With the draft polling station list already published, the SEC will now focus on addressing claims and objections before issuing the final list on September 25.
The finalisation of polling stations will pave the way for further preparations for elections to Tripura’s 21 urban local bodies, including the state capital’s Agartala Municipal Corporation.
