Kumarghat, September 10: The nomination scrutiny for Tripura’s September 28 Village Council elections has been completed in Kumarghat Block of Unakoti district, with election authorities validating 225 nomination papers for 67 seats.
The scrutiny took place at the Kumarghat Panchayat Samiti hall, where candidates and authorised representatives of political parties were present. Block Development Officer and Returning Officer Sushanta Dutta supervised the proceedings.
Dutta said the scrutiny was conducted peacefully and in accordance with election rules. Security personnel were positioned around the venue to ensure orderly conduct and prevent any untoward incident.
The contest in Kumarghat will feature candidates associated with the BJP, TIPRA Motha, CPI(M) and Congress, besides independent candidates. The completion of scrutiny has cleared the way for the next phase of the electoral process, with candidates expected to intensify public contact programmes in the coming days.
Political parties are focusing on strengthening their grassroots networks as the local-body elections approach. Candidates are expected to raise issues concerning village infrastructure, public services, roads, water supply and other local development priorities during campaigning.
The district administration is also preparing for polling day and maintaining security at key election locations. Officials said arrangements would be reviewed periodically and strengthened wherever necessary to ensure a peaceful electoral exercise.
With scrutiny concluded, the focus has now shifted from nomination formalities to campaign activities and voter outreach across the 67 seats.
The authorities have urged all political parties, candidates and supporters to observe election-related guidelines and maintain peace throughout the campaign period.
As September 28 approaches, political activity is expected to increase across Kumarghat Block, with candidates seeking to build voter support and secure representation in the Village Councils.
