Agartala, September 9:
The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has begun preparations to manage the expected surge in public movement during Durga Puja, reviewing sanitation, lighting, drainage and road conditions across the city.
The civic body held a review meeting on Wednesday to assess the status of essential services and identify measures required to keep different parts of Agartala functional during the festive period.
Mayor Dipak Majumder said cleanliness across all municipal wards would be accorded priority. He stressed that adequate civic arrangements must be in place to ensure residents and visitors can enjoy the festival without facing unnecessary inconvenience.
The Corporation plans to deploy additional sanitation workers in various wards and strengthen street lighting at important locations. Teams will monitor civic services during the celebrations and address requirements in areas witnessing increased activity.
Special attention will be given to the surroundings of Durga Puja pandals. The AMC intends to maintain suitable conditions for visitors and facilitate smooth movement in areas expected to attract larger crowds.
The meeting also reviewed drainage facilities, road repairs, sanitation and lighting arrangements. Majumder said ongoing road-related works being undertaken by different departments are being monitored, with efforts being made to complete them before the Puja celebrations.
Preparations for the AMC’s Sharad Samman programme were also discussed. The Mayor said the process is expected to be completed by October or the first week of November.
Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta, AMC Commissioner Saju Wahid and other corporators took part in the meeting.
The AMC’s preparations are aimed at ensuring that Agartala’s basic civic infrastructure remains operational during the Durga Puja period, when the city is expected to witness increased visitor movement and activity around puja pandals.
