Agartala, August 25: Tripura Governor Shri Indra Sena Reddy Nallu on Tuesday participated in a Van Mahotsav programme themed “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” at the office complex of the Tripura Horticulture Corporation Limited (THCL).

The programme was organised as part of efforts to promote environmental awareness, encourage tree plantation and highlight the importance of protecting the state’s natural resources. The Governor’s participation underscored the significance of collective community action in strengthening Tripura’s green cover.

Addressing those present at the programme, the Governor highlighted the importance of planting and protecting trees as a long-term investment in environmental sustainability. He stressed that tree plantation should not remain limited to ceremonial activities but should be followed by regular care and conservation of planted saplings.

The “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative seeks to connect environmental conservation with personal and social responsibility by encouraging people to plant trees in honour of their mothers. The campaign has also emerged as a platform to create greater public participation in afforestation and ecological protection.

The Governor called upon citizens, particularly young people, to actively participate in plantation and environmental conservation activities. He emphasised that protecting forests and expanding green spaces are essential for maintaining ecological balance and ensuring a healthier environment for future generations.

Officials and representatives associated with the programme also highlighted the importance of integrating plantation activities with sustainable horticulture and community-based environmental initiatives.

The venue at the THCL office complex provided an opportunity to combine the objectives of Van Mahotsav with the promotion of horticulture and sustainable greenery. Participants were encouraged to take responsibility for the survival and growth of trees planted under the campaign.

The programme also sought to strengthen awareness about the role of trees in improving air quality, conserving soil and water, supporting biodiversity and mitigating the effects of climate change.

The Governor’s participation in the Van Mahotsav programme comes amid increasing emphasis on environmental conservation and sustainable development across Tripura.

The event concluded with a renewed call for greater public involvement in plantation drives and protection of the state’s natural resources. Organisers expressed hope that the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign would inspire more people to plant and nurture trees, turning the message of environmental responsibility into sustained action.

The programme at THCL thus highlighted the broader objective of making environmental conservation a shared responsibility involving government institutions, communities and individual citizens.
