Tripura Clears Recruitment of 916 Police Constables

Agartala: The Tripura Council of Ministers, chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, on Thursday approved the creation of 305 new posts and recruitment against 1,277 posts across various government departments, Cabinet spokesperson and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said.

Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting, Chowdhury said the government approved direct recruitment of 916 male and female constables in Tripura Police under the Home Department. Candidates will be selected through physical efficiency tests, written examinations and oral tests as prescribed under the recruitment process.

The Cabinet also cleared recruitment of 219 Lower Division Clerks under the Health and Family Welfare Department through the Tripura Joint Recruitment Board (JRBT).

In another decision, 27 Group-C technical personnel will be recruited under the General Administration (Printing and Stationery) Department. The positions include chargeman, chargeman retouching, chargeman offset machine, copy holder, Kokborok copy holder, machine man and binder.

The government also approved creation of 105 posts for four proposed Government Railway Police (GRP) stations at Bishramganja, Udaipur, Belonia and Sabroom. These will include sub-inspectors, woman sub-inspectors, assistant sub-inspectors, woman head constables, woman constables and constable drivers.

The Tribal Welfare Department will fill 15 fixed-pay posts, including Lower Division Clerk and multi-tasking staff positions, through the JRBT.

The Cabinet further approved creation of 200 assistant professor posts for government general degree colleges under the Higher Education Department. Chowdhury, however, clarified that the decision was limited to creation of the posts and did not mean immediate recruitment against all 200 positions.

In a major decision concerning higher education, the Cabinet also approved the Shri Shri University, Tripura Bill, 2026. The proposed university will have its campus in Sepahijala district.

According to the Minister, the university will be able to offer programmes ranging from certificate and diploma courses to undergraduate, postgraduate, MPhil, PhD and post-doctoral programmes, besides honorary degrees.

It will have scope for courses in science, engineering and technology, architecture and planning, social sciences, humanities, commerce, management, AYUSH, yoga and naturopathy, and medical sciences.
