Senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally Tipra Motha have reached New Delhi for a crucial round of discussions aimed at resolving differences within the ruling coalition ahead of the upcoming Village Committee (VC) elections and the 2028 Tripura Assembly elections.

The high-level meeting assumes significance as both parties seek to strengthen their alliance after recent strains in their relationship. According to party sources, the discussions are expected to focus on restoring coordination between the coalition partners and formulating a united strategy for the electoral challenges ahead.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has already left for the national capital, while BJP Tripura President Abhishek Debroy is also expected to participate in the deliberations. A senior delegation from Tipra Motha, led by party founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, is also scheduled to attend the meeting.

Relations between the BJP and Tipra Motha had deteriorated in the run-up to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, when both parties decided to contest separately despite being allies in the state government. The election campaign witnessed sharp exchanges between the two parties, resulting in political differences that have remained unresolved since then.

However, with the Village Committee elections approaching and the next Assembly elections expected in 2028, both parties are now understood to be keen on putting aside their disagreements and working together to preserve the stability of the ruling alliance.

Sources within the BJP indicated that the party’s central leadership is also in favour of resolving the issues between the alliance partners. Senior leaders from both parties reportedly believe that maintaining unity will be crucial for strengthening the coalition and preparing for future electoral contests.

Political observers view the Delhi meeting as an important step in determining the future course of the BJP-Tipra Motha alliance. Any consensus reached during the discussions is expected to influence seat-sharing arrangements, campaign coordination and the broader political strategy for the upcoming elections.

While neither party has officially disclosed the agenda of the meeting, leaders from both sides have indicated their willingness to engage in constructive dialogue to ensure the long-term stability of the coalition and present a united front in the state’s evolving political landscape.
