Agartala, July 10: Former Tripura Chief Minister and West Tripura Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb has utilised more than 93 per cent of the funds sanctioned under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) over the past two years, significantly exceeding the national average, according to a press statement citing official data.

Figures released by the West Tripura district administration show that Deb sanctioned Rs 10.44 crore for 32 development projects between the 2024–25 and 2026–27 financial years. Of these, work has commenced on 29 projects, with 15 already completed, while the remaining projects are progressing at various stages of implementation.

According to the official records, approximately Rs 9.71 crore has already been spent out of the total sanctioned amount, translating into a 93.05 per cent utilisation rate.

During the 2024–25 financial year, Deb approved six projects with a total outlay of Rs 3.19 crore. More than 94 per cent of the allocated funds for these projects has already been utilised, reflecting steady execution of development works.

In the 2025–26 financial year, the Lok Sabha MP sanctioned Rs 6.51 crore for 23 projects under MPLADS. Among these, 12 projects have been completed, while several others are reported to be in advanced stages of execution.

For the current financial year (2026–27), Deb has approved three additional development projects worth Rs 72.55 lakh, which are presently in the initial phase of implementation.

The MPLADS scheme enables Members of Parliament to recommend developmental works aimed at creating durable community assets and improving public infrastructure in their constituencies.

Official records also highlighted Deb’s performance during his tenure as a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from September 2022 to June 2024. During that period, he sanctioned 14 projects worth Rs 4.43 crore under MPLADS.

The district administration’s data show that the entire sanctioned amount was utilised, achieving 100 per cent expenditure during his tenure in the Upper House.

The figures reflect the pace of implementation of MPLADS-funded projects in West Tripura, covering works across multiple sectors, including public infrastructure and community development. According to the official data, a majority of the sanctioned projects are either completed or nearing completion, indicating steady progress in the utilisation of development funds allocated under the central scheme.
