Repolling in four polling stations of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) concluded peacefully on Thursday, recording a high voter turnout of 86.83 per cent, officials confirmed. The State Election Commission (SEC) had ordered fresh polling following reports of irregularities during the April 12 elections, which had witnessed an overall turnout of around 83 per cent.

The repoll was conducted across four booths: two under the 10-Kulai–Champahaor (ST) constituency, one in the 17-Pekuarjala–Janmejayanagar (ST) constituency in Sepahijala district, and one under the 11-Maharani–Teliamura (ST) constituency. Authorities ensured strict security arrangements to facilitate smooth and fair voting.

At Booth No. 17 in Kulai–Champahaor, voters turned up enthusiastically, with 149 ballots cast by 9 AM out of 699 registered voters. In Pekuarjala–Janmejayanagar, residents participated actively under tight security measures. The repoll at Nanda Kumar Para JB School (Booth No. 5) drew particular attention, with turnout reaching 42 per cent by midday. Both BJP candidate Billu Jamatia and TIPRA Motha’s Utpal Debbarma were present, reflecting a spirit of cooperation and peaceful participation.

SEC Secretary Anurag Sen stated that voting commenced at 7 AM and concluded at 4 PM without any untoward incidents. He reiterated that the repoll was conducted smoothly and transparently.

Counting of votes for all 28 council seats will begin at 8 AM on April 17 across 17 centres in the state. The process will start with VVPAT slip counting, followed by EVMs. To ensure law and order, prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita have been imposed around counting centres.

The Commission emphasized that the repoll was necessary to uphold the integrity of the electoral process, assuring voters of strict monitoring and fair conduct throughout.
