Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Monday asserted that regional political parties fail to sustain themselves as they do not prioritise development, claiming that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) remains the only party committed to the real progress of Janajati communities.
Addressing a courtyard meeting at Chakmapara under booth number 20 of the Bodhjungnagar-Wakhinagar constituency for the TTAADC elections, Nath highlighted BJP’s organisational strength and governance record. He compared the party’s growth with other political organisations, stating that despite being relatively younger, the BJP has emerged as the world’s largest political party in terms of membership.
He noted that the BJP currently has a significant presence in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, along with a strong base of MLAs across the country. According to Nath, the party is in power in several states, which reflects public trust in its governance model and development agenda. “People from every section support BJP because of its guiding principle of inclusive growth,” he said, referring to the slogan of universal development.
Focusing on local achievements, the minister said that in Wakhinagar alone, substantial welfare measures have been implemented over the past seven and a half years. These include the construction of hundreds of houses, distribution of free rice to numerous families, and extension of social pensions, which have also been increased.
Nath further claimed that the BJP-led government has given due recognition and respect to Janajati communities. He pointed out that several members from these communities have received national honours in recent years. He also cited initiatives such as renaming infrastructure and commemorating historical figures as examples of the government’s commitment.
Criticising previous governments led by the Congress and the CPI(M), Nath alleged that they had neglected Janajati welfare, whereas the current dispensation is actively implementing development projects in tribal areas.
