In a significant political development ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, 29 families comprising 114 voters from East Muhuripur-Bhuratli (Seat No. 27) joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday, signalling a potential shift in local political dynamics.

The group was led by Rakhi Mala Tripura, sister of Tipra Motha candidate Debajit Tripura. Their decision to leave Tipra Motha and CPI(M) and align with the BJP is being viewed as a notable setback for rival parties in the run-up to the council elections. Welcoming the new entrants, state BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee handed over party flags and described the move as a reflection of growing faith in the BJP’s agenda for tribal welfare and development.

On the same day, the BJP organised a large election rally at Poangbari in Sabroom in support of its candidate Abhijit Tripura. Addressing the gathering, Bhattacharjee expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, stating that the scale of public participation and enthusiasm indicated that victory in the ADC polls was within reach.

He launched a sharp attack on Tipra Motha, accusing the party of failing to deliver tangible development during its five-year tenure in the council. Questioning the crowd, he challenged them to cite a single major achievement of the party while in power. In contrast, he highlighted what he termed as “substantial progress” under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Manik Saha. He pointed to improvements in road connectivity, drinking water supply, rural housing under PMAY, and the implementation of various welfare schemes as key indicators of development.

Bhattacharjee also called upon voters to unite behind BJP candidates, assuring that the coming five years would bring accelerated and inclusive growth to tribal areas. Emphasising unity and collective strength, he concluded the rally with the slogan, “Tiprasa Rokni Soumai, ADC a BJP Tubunai,” asserting that the unity of the Tiprasa people would ensure BJP’s victory in the council elections.

The developments underscore intensifying political activity in Tripura as parties vie for influence in the crucial TTAADC polls.
