Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Thursday assured the public that there is no shortage of LPG cylinders, petrol, or diesel in Tripura, urging citizens not to panic or resort to unnecessary stockpiling.

Responding to a query raised by MLA Gopal Chandra Roy during the Assembly session, the minister said that detailed reports from fuel dealers across the state indicate that adequate stock is available for more than a month. He emphasized that the supply chain remains stable and uninterrupted, despite concerns arising from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Chowdhury noted that rumors of a possible shortage have led to panic buying and long queues at petrol pumps in some areas. He appealed to the public to rely on official information and avoid being misled by unverified claims. “There is absolutely no shortage of fuel. Supplies are normal, and there is no need for panic,” he said.

To ensure smooth distribution, district administrations—particularly in West Tripura—have stepped up monitoring of fuel stations. The minister informed that special control rooms have been set up to oversee operations and promptly address any irregularities in supply or distribution.

Issuing a stern warning, Chowdhury said strict action would be taken against black marketing and hoarding. He made it clear that any attempt to create artificial scarcity or exploit the situation for profit would invite strong legal consequences. “The government is fully alert. We will not tolerate any malpractice that disrupts public convenience,” he added.

The minister’s statement aims to calm public anxiety and reinforce confidence in the government’s ability to maintain a steady supply of essential fuels, ensuring normalcy across the state.
