Tripura has witnessed a steady rise in tourist arrivals in recent years, reflecting the state government’s efforts to strengthen tourism infrastructure and promote the state as an emerging travel destination. The information was shared by Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy while presenting the State Budget in the Legislative Assembly on Monday.

According to the budget statement, the government has been implementing several tourism development initiatives aimed at improving facilities, connectivity and eco-tourism across the state. Many of these projects are being carried out with financial support from the Asian Development Bank under the Externally Aided Project (EAP).

The Finance Minister informed that tourist arrivals in Tripura have increased significantly in recent years. During 2025–26, till February 2026, the state recorded 6,50,772 tourist visits compared to 5,29,815 arrivals in 2018–19, indicating steady growth in the tourism sector.

To further boost tourism, the state government plans to introduce a houseboat service at Dumboor Lake during the financial year 2026–27. The initiative is expected to enhance tourist experiences and attract more visitors to the scenic destination.

The government has also proposed several major infrastructure projects. These include waterfront development at Amar Sagar Lake with an estimated investment of ₹40 crore and development of the Twin Islands at Dumboor Lake at a cost of ₹30 crore. Both projects will be implemented with financial assistance from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER).

Another significant project planned for 2026–27 is the development of Brahammakunda as a tourist destination, for which the government has proposed an allocation of ₹13 crore.

The Finance Minister also highlighted that the tourism sector showed encouraging progress during 2025–26, driven by initiatives focused on improving infrastructure, expanding eco-tourism opportunities and attracting a greater number of visitors.

Among the major upcoming attractions is a replica complex of the 51 Shakti Peethas being developed at Banduar near Udaipur, Tripura at an estimated cost of ₹97.70 crore. The project is expected to strengthen religious tourism in the region.

Additionally, the state hosted the Unity Promo Fest 2025 in December 2025, a winter tourism event that brought together 125 tour operator delegates from 22 Indian states and four foreign countries. The event helped showcase Tripura’s tourism potential at national and international levels and further promoted the state as a promising travel destination.
