At the historic Maharajganja Bazaar, devotees assembled in large numbers to mark the auspicious occasion associated with Lord Krishna and Radha. The area resonated with devotional songs and chants as worshippers offered prayers seeking peace, prosperity and harmony.

Participants smeared ‘abir’ (coloured powder) on one another, symbolising joy, unity and the triumph of good over evil. The vibrant hues and festive spirit created an atmosphere of camaraderie among people cutting across age groups.

Meanwhile, a colourful cultural programme was organised at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, where members of the cultural fraternity celebrated Basanta Utsav through performances of songs composed by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. The event reflected the traditional Santiniketan-style celebration of spring, blending music, dance and colours with a message of universal brotherhood.

Organisers said Basanta Utsav is not merely about playing with colours but about strengthening bonds of fraternity and promoting social harmony. They urged people to celebrate responsibly so that the spirit of joy and devotion remains unmarred by any untoward incident.

Various business associations and local organisations also extended greetings to the people of the state, praying for collective well-being and adherence to the ideals of Sanatan Dharma.

With devotional observances and cultural festivities marking Dol Purnima, the capital city is now set for the grand celebration of Holi, as residents prepare to immerse themselves in the vibrant festival of colours.
