The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Saturday observed the birth anniversary of veteran socialist leader and former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, paying rich tributes to his enduring legacy of social justice, equality, and people-centric governance. The commemoration was held at the Pradesh Congress headquarters in Agartala, where senior party leaders, office-bearers, and workers gathered to remember his life and contributions.
As part of the programme, floral tributes were offered to the portrait of Karpoori Thakur, followed by discussions on his ideals and political philosophy. TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha addressed the gathering and highlighted the continued relevance of Thakur’s vision in the present socio-political landscape. He described Karpoori Thakur as a leader who dedicated his entire life to the upliftment of the marginalized and the empowerment of the underprivileged.
“Karpoori Thakur’s commitment to social justice and public welfare remains a cornerstone of progressive politics. His influence is still deeply felt in Bihar and across the country. The reforms and policies he introduced laid a strong foundation for equality, inclusive growth, and opportunity for all sections of society,” Saha said. He added that Thakur’s governance model continues to serve as a benchmark for ethical, transparent, and people-oriented administration.
Speakers at the event recalled that Karpoori Thakur, popularly known as ‘Jannayak’, was instrumental in implementing path-breaking measures aimed at social inclusion, particularly for backward and economically weaker sections. His leadership was marked by simplicity, honesty, and an unwavering focus on the common people, values that, leaders said, are increasingly relevant in today’s political environment.
Congress leaders also noted that Thakur’s life and work serve as a source of inspiration for party workers, especially the younger generation, to engage in politics with a sense of responsibility and service. They urged members to follow his ideals of humility, integrity, and dedication to public service.
The programme concluded with a call to uphold Karpoori Thakur’s vision of an inclusive and just society, and to strive for governance that places people’s welfare at the centre of all political action.
