The Government of Tripura has appointed Dilip Kumar Chakma, a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, as the new Chairman of the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC). The appointment comes in the wake of the resignation of Colonel Kush Kumar Sharma, the former Chairman of TPSC. Colonel Sharma stepped down after being embroiled in a controversy involving alleged misconduct. According to official sources, he was accused of misbehaving with a state minister and security personnel while reportedly under the influence of alcohol. Following the incident, Colonel Sharma and his son were arrested, and a specific case was registered against them. Subsequently, Colonel Sharma met Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu and tendered his resignation from the constitutional post.

The General Administration Department (GAD) of Tripura issued a formal notification regarding Chakma’s appointment. The notification stated, “In pursuance of Article 316 of the Constitution of India, the Governor is pleased to appoint Shri Dilip Kumar Chakma, IAS (Retired), as Chairman, Tripura Public Service Commission, with effect from the date he takes over the charge.”

Dilip Kumar Chakma brings with him decades of administrative experience, having served the state in various key capacities during his tenure in the civil services. Known for his administrative acumen and familiarity with governance and institutional functioning, his appointment is expected to provide stability and restore confidence in the functioning of the Tripura Public Service Commission.

The TPSC plays a crucial role in the recruitment of personnel to various state government services and posts, and the appointment of a seasoned administrator at its helm is being viewed as an important step towards ensuring transparency, efficiency and credibility in the selection process.

With Chakma’s appointment, the state government aims to ensure smooth functioning of the commission and uphold the dignity and integrity of this vital constitutional body.
