In a major anti-narcotics operation carried out on Thursday morning, Srinagar Police, with active support from personnel of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), destroyed a large-scale cannabis plantation in Forest Lane, Anandnagar, under Bharatsardar Para. The operation dealt a significant blow to illegal narcotics cultivation in the area.

According to police sources, the joint team uprooted and destroyed nearly 1,500 cannabis plants that were being cultivated across approximately seven kani of land, equivalent to around 2.8 acres. The estimated market value of the destroyed cannabis plantation is around ₹3 lakh, highlighting the scale of the illicit activity.

Police officials revealed that in some parts of the area, cultivators had already cut and removed cannabis plants before the arrival of the enforcement team. This has raised suspicion that prior information about the raid may have been leaked. Despite this, authorities described the operation as a major success in disrupting illegal cultivation and sending a strong warning to those involved in narcotics-related activities.

Local residents confirmed that cannabis farming has been a recurring problem in the region, with cultivators frequently misusing forested and secluded patches to grow illicit crops. Such activities, they said, have not only fueled illegal trade but also created law-and-order concerns for nearby communities.

Following the operation, police officials reiterated their commitment to intensifying surveillance in vulnerable areas and conducting follow-up raids to prevent the resurgence of illegal plantations. Special attention will be given to forested zones and border-adjacent regions, which are often exploited by traffickers due to their remote nature.

Authorities emphasized that the crackdown reflects the administration’s zero-tolerance approach towards narcotics cultivation and trafficking. They also urged the public to cooperate by sharing information about illegal activities in their localities. The police assured that strict action will continue against those involved, as part of a sustained effort to curb the growing challenge of drug cultivation and trade in Tripura.
