Formed with the objective of empowering rural artisans through sustainable livelihoods, the unit has steadily built its capacity by creating innovative and eco-friendly bamboo products. Members of the group initially focused on developing items such as bamboo mobile stands, decorative artefacts, handmade jewellery, and utility products, combining traditional skills with contemporary designs to suit modern consumer preferences.

A major breakthrough came when the group participated in the 3rd District SARAS Fair, a platform aimed at showcasing products made by Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and rural enterprises. The quality, craftsmanship, and uniqueness of their bamboo products drew considerable attention from visitors and buyers alike. As a result of this exposure, a Delhi-based buyer placed a confirmed order for 25 bamboo lamps valued at Rs 10,000, marking the unit’s first inter-state commercial order.

The lamps have now been carefully packed and are ready for dispatch to Delhi, where they are expected to be used in homes and offices. Members of the unit are hopeful that this initial order will pave the way for repeat and larger orders, helping their products reach markets beyond Tripura and enhancing the group’s income and visibility.

In addition to the confirmed order, the SARAS Fair generated strong interest from potential buyers, with bulk enquiries received for handmade jewellery items and bamboo cups. This growing demand reflects increasing consumer preference for eco-friendly, handcrafted, and sustainable products.

Officials associated with TRLM described this achievement as a proud moment for the Sripur GP unit, highlighting the dedication of its artisans and the effectiveness of institutional support, capacity building, and market linkage initiatives. The success stands as an encouraging example of how rural enterprises, when provided with the right guidance and opportunities, can confidently step onto larger market platforms and build sustainable livelihoods.
