A seminar titled “SC/ST Reservation: Present Context, Challenges and the Road Ahead” was held on Sunday at the Muktadhara Auditorium in Agartala. The programme was jointly organized by the Tripura Tribal Officers Welfare Forum (TTOWF), the All Tripura SC Officers Welfare Society, and the Tipra Engineers Society. The event brought together senior government representatives, retired bureaucrats, academicians, and community leaders to engage in an in-depth discussion on the status of reservation policies and their impact on marginalized communities.

The seminar focused on reviewing the present context of SC/ST reservation, identifying key challenges in implementation, and exploring possible ways forward. Participants emphasized the need for informed dialogue to ensure that constitutional safeguards translate into real socio-economic empowerment.

Minister for SC Welfare Sudhangshu Das attended the seminar as the chief guest. In his address, he highlighted the importance of such forums in strengthening democratic and constitutional values. He stated that discussions of this nature help in evaluating the effectiveness of government initiatives aimed at protecting the rights of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Das reaffirmed the state government’s commitment under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to effectively implement reservation policies and extend equal opportunities in education, employment, and other sectors.

He further informed that several state and centrally sponsored schemes are currently being implemented for the socio-economic development of SC and ST communities. Assuring responsiveness, the minister said that constructive suggestions emerging from the seminar would be carefully examined and considered for future policy decisions to ensure holistic development.

Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, who attended as a guest of honour, underscored the constitutional significance of reservation. He remarked that such seminars play a vital role in strengthening the Constitution and safeguarding the rights of marginalized sections of society. According to him, reservation has enabled many historically deprived communities to achieve dignity, representation, and self-reliance.

The seminar concluded with a collective call for sustained dialogue, improved awareness, and stronger policy measures to address existing gaps and ensure the effective implementation of SC/ST reservation in Tripura.
