Agartala, Nov 2: Political tension gripped the Narsinghgarh–Bhagalpur area under Bamutia Assembly constituency on Saturday morning after local residents allegedly obstructed members of the Left Front during their membership collection drive.

According to reports, the drive was led by Pabitra Kar, State Secretary of the Tripura Krishak Sabha (Farmers’ Association), along with several local Left leaders. As they began collecting memberships in the locality, a section of the public reportedly resisted their activities, resulting in a tense confrontation.

Reacting to the incident, the Left leaders alleged that a conspiracy was underway to disturb the atmosphere of peace and political harmony that had long existed in the Bamutia constituency. They claimed that the local people were being misled and pressured into opposing the membership campaign, and that such incidents reflected a broader attempt to suppress democratic political activities.

“The people themselves are not at fault. They have been compelled to behave this way. However, no one can escape the consequences of their actions—every deed brings its result,” one Left leader remarked, condemning the obstruction.

The incident created high tension across the area, with residents divided in their opinions. While some opposed the membership campaign, others termed the resistance unjustified and politically motivated.

Political observers noted that Narsinghgarh was once considered a stronghold of the Left Front, and Saturday’s incident reflects the changing political dynamics in the region. Many believe this confrontation will push the Left leadership to reassess its grassroots strength and reconnect with its former base.

Meanwhile, local women and community members also expressed mixed reactions, with one resident commenting that such political conflicts only hamper peace and development in the area.
