Agartala, Nov 1: Woman Inspector (UB) Swapna Bhowmik of the Tripura Police has been conferred with the Kendriya Grihamantri Dakshata Padak for 2025 in recognition of her outstanding performance in the field of investigation. The honour acknowledges her professionalism, prompt action, and dedication in delivering justice to a minor victim through exemplary investigation.

According to an official press release, Inspector Bhowmik, posted at Belonia Women Police Station, was recognized for her commendable work in Belonia Women PS Case No. 2024WMN029, dated September 15, 2024. The case, registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, culminated in the conviction of the accused within 257 days—a testament to her efficiency and commitment.

The case originated from a missing report of a minor girl lodged on September 14, 2024. Acting swiftly, Inspector Bhowmik traced and recovered the victim the same night. She ensured the victim’s medical examination and recorded her judicial statement under Section 183(5) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) the following morning.

Through meticulous investigation and diligent follow-up, the accused was promptly arrested. The charge sheet was filed within 47 days, and the case was tried in a Fast Track Court under the newly implemented BNS, BNSS, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).

The Court convicted the accused, awarding 20 years of Rigorous Imprisonment and fines under the POCSO Act, along with additional imprisonment under BNS provisions. The victim was also granted ₹2 lakh compensation under the Victim Compensation Scheme.

Inspector Bhowmik’s achievement underscores the objective of the new criminal laws—to ensure swift, transparent, and victim-centric justice in India’s evolving legal framework.
