Agartala, September 1: The Tripura unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday staged a massive protest rally in Agartala, condemning the alleged use of abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a Congress-RJD programme held recently in Darbhanga, Bihar.

The BJP leaders accused the Congress of lowering the dignity of political discourse and demanded an unconditional apology from senior party leader Rahul Gandhi.

The rally was led by BJP state president and MP Rajib Bhattacharjee and saw the participation of several cabinet ministers, including Sushanta Chowdhury, Sudhangshu Das, Bikash Debbarma, and Santana Chakma, along with senior party functionaries.

Starting from Maharani Tulsibati School, the rally passed through key streets of the state capital, with participants raising slogans against the Congress leadership. The protest culminated in front of the Post Office and Congress Bhavan, where a heavy security presence was deployed to prevent any untoward incidents.

Addressing the gathering, BJP leaders alleged that the Congress, by allowing such derogatory remarks, had disrespected not only the Prime Minister but also Indian political traditions. They further accused the CPI(M) of running a similar propaganda campaign against the BJP in Tripura, thereby lowering the standards of democratic discourse.

The controversy erupted after a speaker at the Darbhanga event allegedly used offensive language against PM Modi and his late mother. The remarks sparked outrage within the BJP, prompting protests across several states. Tripura’s demonstration on Monday added to the chorus of voices demanding accountability from the Congress leadership.

The Tripura BJP reiterated that while differences in ideology are natural in politics, personal attacks and derogatory remarks have no place in public life and only deepen divisions in society.
