Agartala, Aug 31 — In a proud moment for Tripura’s cycling community, 58-year-old youth activist and passionate cyclist Ajoy Saha from the Agartala Cycloholics Foundation was felicitated at the State Level National Sports Day celebration held at the DDSS Complex, Badharghat.

The event was organized by the Directorate of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of Tripura, and attended by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, along with senior officials and sports enthusiasts from across the state.

Saha was honoured for his extraordinary achievement of cycling 4,760 km from Agartala to Leh-Ladakh — a feat that has inspired countless athletes, youth, and fitness enthusiasts in the region. His journey stands as a testament to endurance, determination, and the spirit of adventure, reflecting the rising popularity of cycling as both a sport and a lifestyle movement in Tripura.

Gopesh Debnath, Founder of the Agartala Cycloholics Foundation and Bicycle Mayor of Agartala, expressed pride in the recognition. “This honor is not only for Ajoy’s individual achievement but also a celebration of the growing cycling culture in Tripura,” Debnath said, adding that such milestones encourage more people to embrace cycling for fitness, sustainability, and community building.

The felicitation coincided with the observance of National Sports Day, celebrated annually on August 29 to commemorate hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand’s birth anniversary. This year, the Fit India Mission extended the observance until August 31, with activities engaging schools, colleges, sports bodies, and civil society groups nationwide.

The recognition of Saha’s achievement added a unique highlight to the state-level celebrations, showcasing how individual passion and dedication can ignite broader movements. His success has not only brought recognition to Tripura’s cycling fraternity but has also set an example of how sports and fitness can become powerful mediums of social inspiration.

With his feat now officially honored, Ajoy Saha continues to inspire a new generation of cyclists and health-conscious citizens, reinforcing Tripura’s place on India’s cycling map.
