The arrested individuals have been identified as Sonu Kumar (31), son of late Munshi Mahaldar, and Suman Kumar Gupta (34), son of late Ashok Kumar Gupta — both residents of Naya Tola, Tingachiya, under Town Tana Police Station in Katihar district of Bihar.

Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Government Railway Police Station (GRPS) apprehended the duo and seized a total of 8.450 kilograms of ganja from their possession. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were attempting to transport the contraband from Tripura to Bihar.

According to officials, the estimated value of the seized ganja in the black market is around ₹1.7 lakh. The accused had concealed the substance with the intention of evading detection during transit.

A case has been registered under Agartala GRPS Case No. 2025GRP085. Legal proceedings are underway under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act — specifically, Sections 20(b)(ii)(B) and 29.

Authorities have intensified their efforts to curb the smuggling of narcotics through railway routes. This arrest adds to the growing list of successful operations by the GRPS and law enforcement agencies targeting interstate drug networks.

Both accused are currently in custody and will be produced before the court as part of further legal proceedings. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source and intended recipients of the consignment, as well as any possible links to larger drug trafficking operations.
