Agartala: August 17: Amid growing rifts within the Khayerpur Mandal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the party on Sunday released an expulsion letter, dated May 24, 2025, announcing the removal of Manna Dey, President of the Yuva Morcha (youth wing) of the Khayerpur Mandal.
The letter, issued by the BJP Tripura State Executive Committee, stated that Dey was expelled permanently for violating the party’s code of conduct. His activities, highlighted through controversial videos circulating on social media, were deemed “damaging to the dignity, credibility, and discipline of the party” and had caused “serious embarrassment” to the organization.
Despite repeated warnings from the leadership to maintain discipline and adhere to party values, Dey allegedly continued his misconduct. Following directives from the BJP Tripura Pradesh leadership, he has been stripped of all responsibilities and barred from using the party’s name, symbols, or participating in organizational activities. The expulsion order was signed by Amit Rakshit, State General Secretary of BJP Tripura Pradesh.
The controversy within the Khayerpur Mandal deepened after an audio clip featuring Panchayat Pradhan Debjani Chowdhury went viral. In the telephonic conversation, Chowdhury leveled multiple allegations against Dey and several other local party workers, and even mentioned Khayerpur MLA Ratan Chakraborty. The leaked audio sparked widespread discussion on social media before Chowdhury issued a public apology.
The incident has once again exposed factionalism within the Khayerpur BJP unit, a recurring issue in recent years. Political observers note that the expulsion may temporarily address disciplinary concerns but could also fuel internal unrest within the party’s grassroots network.
