Agartala, Aug 6:
In a prompt response to the tragic road accident in Teliamura that claimed the life of lorry driver Mihirlal Debnath, the state government has announced a financial aid package of ₹6 lakh for the bereaved family. The aid includes ₹4 lakh from the Disaster Management Fund and ₹2 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

The announcement came amid growing public anger over the incident, which highlighted alleged lapses in emergency response. To ensure accountability, the state administration has also initiated a high-level inquiry into the matter.

A three-member probe committee has been constituted under the leadership of the Secretary of the Revenue Department. The committee has been instructed to submit a comprehensive report by August 15, examining all aspects of the incident, including any delay or negligence in rescue and relief operations.

In a strong administrative move, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Teliamura has been suspended, and a showcause notice has been issued to the District Magistrate and Collector of Khowai district. The government stated that strict action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.

A government spokesperson said, “Upholding public trust and ensuring justice is our foremost priority. A fair and impartial investigation is underway, and those responsible will be held accountable.”

The announcement of financial assistance and the institution of a formal investigation have slightly eased public outrage, but citizens continue to demand transparency and timely justice.

This incident has reignited calls for improved road safety measures and emergency management protocols across the state, as residents remain watchful of the upcoming inquiry findings and subsequent government actions.
