Agartala, August 6:
The Central Government has initiated action following a formal request from Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha regarding the deteriorating condition of a key stretch of National Highway in the state. In response, a high-level team from the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) is set to visit Tripura on August 10 to assess the situation.

The issue pertains to a 12-kilometre stretch of National Highway connecting Kamalpur and Khowai, which has reportedly been in a state of disrepair for some time. Chief Minister Saha had addressed the concern in a letter to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, dated May 10.

Following this, Union Minister Gadkari, in a written communication dated July 22, confirmed that a team from the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) had conducted an on-ground inspection of the road from June 23 to June 27. A detailed report based on their findings is expected to be submitted to the Ministry by August 15.

In line with the Centre’s response, NHIDCL Managing Director Dr. Krishna Kumar will personally visit Tripura on August 10 to review the progress of ongoing and proposed construction and repair work on National Highways across the state.

Chief Minister Saha has consistently underscored the importance of renovating this route, which serves as an important alternative road network in the state. He has reportedly held multiple telephonic discussions with the Union Minister to expedite the matter.

Additionally, the CM has directed Public Works Department Secretary Kiran Gitte to maintain close coordination with the central authorities and ensure that necessary steps are taken swiftly to address the issue.
