In a continued effort as part of the Congress party’s statewide door-to-door leaflet distribution campaign, MLA Gopal Chandra Roy visited households in the Lal Bahadur area of Agartala on Saturday. The campaign aims to highlight issues the Congress claims have been ignored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s radio program, Mann Ki Baat, and to connect directly with the public on ground realities.

Addressing reporters during the campaign, Roy launched a sharp critique of Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, accusing him of making “fake claims” about improvements in the state’s law and order situation under BJP rule. “The Chief Minister repeatedly claims that law and order has improved manifold. If that’s true, why are opposition leaders being attacked in broad daylight? Why can’t we freely raise our voices or hold programs without obstruction?” he questioned.

Roy also revealed that despite filing a complaint at East Agartala Police Station after an attack on him during a party event, no arrests have been made. He said this demonstrated a failure of law enforcement and a decline in democratic rights in the state.

Without naming names, Roy condemned BJP leaders in the Banamalipur constituency, accusing them of fostering political hostility. He added that the Congress campaign has gained strong support from citizens who are “frustrated and angry” over what he described as BJP’s misgovernance and broken promises.

Concluding his remarks, Roy expressed confidence that Tripura’s people are ready for change and that the Congress’s grassroots outreach is making a significant impact on the electorate ahead of upcoming polls.
