CPIM’s Jitendra Chaudhury Calls BJP-Tipra Motha Rift a ‘Political Drama’ for Personal Gains

Agartala, July 6:
As tensions between the ruling BJP and its alliance partner Tipra Motha continue to escalate over the delayed implementation of the Tiprasa Accord and rising infiltration concerns, the Opposition has termed the entire situation a political farce. CPIM state secretary and Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Sunday dismissed the ongoing developments as nothing more than a “drama” staged for “personal gains.”

Speaking at a DYFI event, Chaudhury took a sharp dig at the recent sequence of events — including Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma’s threat to pull out of the BJP-led coalition and Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma’s late-night meeting with BJP MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb at Ujjayanta Palace.

“From the very beginning, Tipra Motha has functioned through theatrics. Every few hours they introduce a new act. This is just another episode in their ongoing performance,” Chaudhury alleged. He suggested that the motive behind these actions was self-interest, not the welfare of Tripura’s indigenous people. “We all know what these recurring dramas are about — personal gains. Once those are secured, this will stop, and a new episode will begin,” he added.

The CPIM politburo member’s remarks come amid growing pressure from Tipra Motha, which is demanding visible progress on the Tripartite Accord signed in March 2024 and firm action against illegal infiltration. Pradyot has repeatedly raised these concerns, most recently in a meeting with the Governor.

While Chief Minister Manik Saha insists that implementation is underway and communication with Tipra Motha remains open, the opposition sees an opportunity to challenge the government’s stability and narrative.

As uncertainty grows, the Opposition is watching closely to see how long the alliance holds — and what political twist may come next.
