The victim, Bidhan Chandra Das, a resident of Jambura village in Khowai district, filed a detailed written complaint at the local police station. In his complaint, Das stated that he was introduced to a private firm, LFS Broking Pvt. Ltd., by an individual named Tapas Shukladas.

Das began investing on September 8, 2020, starting with ₹5 lakh. Lured by the company’s promise of a fixed 2% monthly return—regardless of market performance—he continued investing in multiple phases. Eventually, he invested a total of ₹72 lakh, most of which came from his pension funds.

A formal agreement was reportedly signed between Das and the firm, guaranteeing monthly interest payments. However, the payments stopped, and Das discovered that the company had shut operations. All contact with its representatives ceased, prompting him to approach the police.

Khowai Police registered a case (Case No. 31/2025) under IPC Section 420 and Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for cheating and fraudulent practices.

Initial investigation revealed that Syed Rahman, the Managing Director of LFS Broking Pvt. Ltd., is currently in judicial custody in Odisha’s Khurda district in connection with a separate case. Khowai Police have launched a probe into the incident and are coordinating with authorities in Odisha to further investigate the matter.
