Bishalgarh, June 30, 2025: A sense of shock and sorrow gripped East Gokulnagar Higher Secondary School on Monday morning after the lifeless body of a man was discovered on the school field. The disturbing sight deeply unsettled students, teachers, and guardians who had gathered for the day’s classes.
Upon receiving the alert, personnel from Bishalgarh Police Station swiftly reached the scene. Preliminary investigation identified the deceased as Mithun Debnath, a local resident and son of the late Manindra Debnath. Mithun’s home is located just beside the school, adding to the emotional weight of the incident for the school community.
According to residents, Mithun had been struggling with mental health issues for several years. Neighbours frequently saw him wandering the area in recent months, reflecting signs of distress. His tragic end has once again brought attention to the importance of mental health care and social support.
Bishalgarh Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Sanjit Sen, confirmed the recovery of the body and said, “We have sent the body to Bishalgarh Hospital for postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.” As of now, no foul play has been confirmed, and investigations are ongoing.
Mithun is survived by his stepmother and brother. The family is reportedly facing severe financial hardship. In a humane gesture, Chinmoy Majumdar, headmaster of the school, and OC Sanjit Sen extended support to the family, ensuring that the last rites were conducted with dignity.
The incident has left the local community mourning and has sparked conversations around mental health awareness and support for vulnerable individuals. While the school resumed operations later in the day, the grief remained palpable among students and staff.
