Agartala: June 19: Senior Tipra Motha leader and Tripura Minister Animesh Debbarma has issued a strong statement urging the Bengali community in the state not to forget the hardships they endured during their migration from Bangladesh. Addressing a public gathering organized by his party at Sabroom on Thursday, Debbarma warned of a looming existential crisis if unchecked illegal immigration from Bangladesh continues.

“The Bengalis of Tripura shouldn’t forget what happened to you in Bangladesh. No one migrates from one country to another without a reason. Torture and targeted attacks led to several waves of migration. If we continue allowing illegal immigrants into our state, we are putting our very existence at risk,” the Minister said.

A mass deputation was also submitted to the local administration during the programme, demanding immediate detection and deportation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants across the state.

Taking a dig at CPIM leader and former MLA Prabhat Chaudhury, who accused the ruling coalition of negligence and corruption, Debbarma retorted, “The former MLA seems to be suffering from myopia. He should consult a good eye specialist.”

Debbarma described Tipra Motha as the only political force consistently raising critical issues. “Even though I am a Minister, I am here in this protest because I care for my people. I may not remain a Minister forever, but I will always live here and fight for Tripura,” he said.

He urged citizens and law enforcement agencies to adopt a firm stance against illegal immigrants. “Illegal immigrants don’t deserve our kindness. Their unchecked entry is causing inflation, land price surges, and rural distress. We must act decisively,” he concluded.

The speech has sparked discussions statewide, highlighting growing concerns over border security and demographic changes in Tripura.
