Agartala, May 17: The Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF), in collaboration with concerned members of the indigenous community, has submitted a memorandum to Minorities Welfare Minister Shukla Charan Noatia, seeking urgent intervention to resolve the longstanding issues faced by Thakur Chara High School in Jolaibari — the Minister’s own Assembly constituency.

The school, a crucial educational institution for indigenous students in the area, is reportedly grappling with serious infrastructural and administrative deficiencies. According to the TSF, a part of the school’s land has been illegally encroached upon, with individuals planting rubber trees within the premises. This unauthorized occupation not only undermines public property but also poses safety risks to students and disrupts academic activities. The TSF has demanded an immediate government-led anti-encroachment drive to reclaim the land.

Beyond the issue of encroachment, the school suffers from a lack of basic facilities. The students’ body pointed out that Thakur Chara High School currently does not have sufficient classrooms, benches, toilets, or a functioning playground. The shortage of qualified teaching and non-teaching staff has further deteriorated the quality of education.

In their appeal, TSF emphasized that the school is one of the few accessible educational institutions for the tribal population in the region. They urged the government to allocate funds for essential amenities including electricity, clean drinking water, functional toilets, boundary wall construction, and improved staffing.

Responding to the concerns, Minister Shukla Charan Noatia said, “This morning, a team of TSF submitted a memorandum to me at my official residence regarding the issues at Thakur Chara High School. I assure them that the State Government will look into the matter and take necessary steps.”

The TSF hopes the government will act swiftly to protect the educational future of the region’s tribal youth.
