Agartala, May 17, 2025 —
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday announced the Tripura government’s ambitious plan to make the state self-sufficient in the production of meat, fish, eggs, and milk within the next five years. Speaking at the inauguration of the 40 TLDP Milk Plant, Gomati Dairy Unit-II at Bamutia in West Tripura, the Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to food security and rural development.

The new dairy plant, constructed on 3.57 acres of land at a cost of ₹22.01 crore under the National Programme for Dairy Development, is expected to significantly boost milk production and processing in the region.

Highlighting the state’s progress, Dr. Saha noted that Tripura ranks first in egg and second in milk availability per capita in the Northeast. The per capita availability of eggs increased from 83 in 2018-19 to 87 in 2023-24. Similarly, meat production rose from 57.34 MT in 2022-23 to 59.70 MT in 2023-24, with per capita availability increasing from 14.1 kg to 14.39 kg.

Milk production also witnessed a steady rise—from 230.12 MT in 2022-23 to 247.31 MT in 2023-24. In the field of cattle breeding, the state recorded the birth of 26,203 calves through sex-sorted semen artificial insemination over the past two fiscal years, with 85% being female—boosting future milk output potential.

Dr. Saha also stressed maintaining product quality from production to supply. He credited the current government’s focused efforts under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for strengthening dairy and animal husbandry sectors as key pillars of rural development.

Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, MoS Prof. S.P. Baghel, and other senior state officials and dignitaries were present at the event.
