Agartala: Mar 05: The East Agartala Police Station has achieved a significant breakthrough in its ongoing anti-drug operations, with the arrest of eight drug peddlers and the seizure of a large quantity of brown sugar. In a press conference held on Wednesday, the Sadar Subdivision Police Officer revealed that the arrests were made following a series of interrogations with previously apprehended drug peddlers.
The information gathered from these earlier arrests led the police to conduct raids across various locations in Agartala. The operation proved successful, with the police seizing substantial amounts of brown sugar, cash, and mobile phones from the arrested individuals. The peddlers were detained from different areas, including Lalmatia in Maharajganj Bazar, a park near MBB College, and a spot close to Agartala Town Hall. These areas were reportedly being used as hotspots for the illegal drug trade.
The police confirmed that the total market value of the recovered brown sugar exceeds four lakh taka, highlighting the scale of the operation and the significant impact of the seizure on the local drug trade. Following the arrests, the police submitted a remand application, seeking permission to question the suspects further to gather more intelligence on the network of drug trafficking in the region.
This successful operation underscores the East Agartala Police Station’s commitment to tackling the growing drug problem in the city. The authorities are hopeful that continued investigations will lead to the dismantling of larger drug syndicates operating in the area. The police have urged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help curb the spread of illegal substances.
