Agartala: Feb 24: The Tripura Police, with a distinguished history of 150 years, continues its dual legacy of maintaining a democratic environment and excelling in sports. Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha highlighted these achievements while inaugurating the 73rd BN Mallik Memorial All India Police Football Championship-2024-25 at Umakanta Football Stadium in Agartala today.
In his address, the Chief Minister noted that Tripura Police is not only dedicated to law and order but also active in various social initiatives. He credited the police for the prevailing peace in the state and expressed gratitude for organizing the championship. This marks the first time the BN Mallik Memorial All India Police Football Championship is being held in Tripura, featuring participation from 25 states, 4 union territories, and 7 central forces. A total of 36 men’s teams and 9 women’s teams are competing in the event, with matches scheduled to run until March 7 across five astroturf football grounds in West Tripura, South Tripura, and Gomti districts.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of such competitions in fostering good relations and idea exchange among players from different states. He encouraged participants to explore Tripura’s cultural and historical tourist centers.
He also praised the current law and order situation in Tripura, attributing its improvement to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah under the ‘Act East Policy.’ This policy has accelerated development in the North Eastern states through enhanced road, rail, and air services. The Chief Minister highlighted the progress in constructing six national highways and the transformation of MBB Airport into a modern facility.
State Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan, ADGP (Training) M Raja Murugan, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, and DGP Intelligence Anurag Dhankar were among the dignitaries present at the event. ADGP (AP) GS Rao delivered the welcome address. The Chief Minister received a guard of honor and met with the managers of the 45 participating teams, administering the oath to the players at the event.
