Agartala: Jan 10: A meeting of the Advisory Committee was convened by former Chief Minister and MP Biplab Kumar Deb at Agartala MBB Airport on Friday. The meeting took place at the airport’s terminal building with various officials present. During the meeting, Deb highlighted the increasing number of passengers flying from Delhi to Tripura and discussed plans to increase direct flights from Delhi to Agartala. He mentioned that a proposal would be submitted to the central government to facilitate this.

Deb also pointed out that flights between Agartala, Shillong, and Aizawl had previously been halted but assured that efforts were underway to resume them. He emphasized the importance of enhancing passenger services at the airport, including the installation of the Instrument Landing System (ILS), which is crucial due to the proximity of the Bangladesh border. Without proper ILS, operational challenges could arise, and Deb proposed a demand to the central government to address this issue.

Regarding the situation in Bangladesh, Deb expressed concern over the ongoing unrest, which has delayed final decisions on certain matters. He indicated that once the situation normalizes, both the Indian and Tripura governments would be prepared to take necessary actions to enhance connectivity and airport infrastructure.

In his address, Deb also criticized the previous government, particularly the communist leadership under former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, claiming that the communist system hindered progress in Tripura, especially in the aviation sector. The meeting focused on the urgency of addressing the issues discussed, including airport security and the need for adequate CISF personnel. Additionally, there were discussions on controlling rising prices in airport stalls to ensure the well-being of passengers.
