Agartala: Dec 21: The plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) serves as a platform to assess the progress of the region and formulate plans for future prosperity. The NEC is playing a pivotal role in addressing regional challenges, advancing communication, promoting sustainable development, and fostering social equality. This was stated by the Governor of Tripura, Indrasena Reddy Nallu, at the 72nd plenary session of the NEC held at Prajna Bhavan today.
He emphasized that the NEC is crucial in planning for the development of the region and increasing mutual cooperation among the eight states.
Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu further stated that Tripura has made remarkable contributions to development in various fields, including agriculture, industrial expansion, tribal welfare, and information technology. He noted that these achievements reflect the aspirations of the people of Tripura. The Governor highlighted that Tripura is the gateway to Southeast Asia, and the policy of being strategically active in the east is being implemented here. He stressed the need for more national highways for the financial and overall development of the region.
At the plenary session, the Governor also emphasized the need for enhanced security and surveillance at the international border and stated that special opportunities should be provided for the youth of the Northeast to join the army and the police. He highlighted the need for specialized training to improve the physical fitness of the youth. The Governor mentioned that the stock of essential commodities in Tripura needs to be increased from 90 days to 180 days to mitigate issues arising from natural disasters like floods and road blockages. He also stressed the importance of taking strict action against drug trafficking and drug abuse. To promote the tourism industry and expand medical tourism opportunities, the Governor emphasized the need to increase air services in Tripura.
