Agartala: Dec 19: The State Democratic Party (SDP) in Delhi staged a sit-in protest, demanding the creation of a separate state, with the protest set to continue until their demand is met. The primary focus of this movement is to protect the rights and existence of tribal people living in the Autonomous District Council (ADC) areas. Aghor Debbarma, the chairman of the SDP, made these statements during a press conference held at the Agartala Press Club on Thursday.

Debbarma accused Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, the leader of the Tipra Motha party, of attempting to make the tribal people forget their demand for a separate state for his own political benefit. He suggested that tribal people had failed to choose the right political leadership, which is why they hadn’t yet protested against Pradyot’s actions. Debbarma argued that if the tribal people had elected the right leaders, they would have challenged Pradyot’s political maneuvers long ago.

Further criticizing Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, Debbarma claimed that Pradyot’s demand for Greater Tipraland was a tactic to gain power and mislead the tribal people for political gain. He also targeted East Tripura MP Kritti Singh Debbarma, comparing him to Michael Madhusudan Dutta. Debbarma suggested that while Dutta had aspired to be an English poet but was not accepted by English literature, Kritti Singh Debbarma, despite being the MP, does not know Kokborok, a key language of the tribal community, while others, like Nripen Babu, do. Debbarma questioned how long it would take for leaders like Kritti Singh to learn Kokborok. Other SDP leaders were also present at the press conference, supporting the organization’s stance.
