Agartala: Dec 15: A two-hour-long public demonstration was organized by the Tripura Khet Major Union West Tripura District Committee in the Paradise Chowmuhani area of Agartala. The protest was held to voice five key demands put forward by the organization. These demands were critical issues affecting the local population, particularly related to employment, wages, and flood relief.

The main demands included increasing the number of workdays under the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) scheme to 200 days per year, which would provide more employment opportunities to rural workers. Additionally, the union demanded an increase in the daily wage rate under MGNREGA to 600 rupees, which they argued was necessary to cope with the rising cost of living.

Another significant demand was for financial assistance to those affected by the recent floods in the state, ensuring that victims received proper compensation and relief. The organization emphasized the need for the government to step up its efforts in addressing the economic distress caused by natural disasters.

Shyamal Deb, the state secretary of the organization, highlighted these demands and stressed that the government must take immediate action to address the grievances of the workers and the flood-affected people. The protest aimed to raise awareness about these pressing issues and urge the authorities to take prompt and effective measures to meet the demands.
