Agartala: Dec 10: Four Bangladeshi citizens, including a child, were arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) for illegally entering Tripura by evading border security. This incident highlights the persistent issue of Bangladeshi infiltration into the state, which continues despite the Border Security Force’s (BSF) strict vigilance. The infiltration usually occurs through brokers who help individuals cross the barbed wire fence at the border. These illegal crossings have become a daily occurrence in the region.

On the day of the arrest, a joint operation was carried out by the GRP, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), and the Intelligence Department of the Agartala GRP Police Station. The operation was based on a tip-off from secret intelligence that Bangladeshis would attempt to travel to other states via Agartala Railway Station. Acting on this information, the GRP police conducted a raid at the station. During the raid, two individuals were spotted walking quickly out of the station, arousing suspicion among the police officers. Upon questioning, the individuals admitted to entering Tripura illegally.

The arrested individuals were identified as Tahidul Polan (26) and Rajifa Begum (19), both from Bangladesh, along with two children: Mohammad Isha Polan (3) and Morim Polan (1). The police registered a specific case against them for illegal entry into India. The authorities have yet to make further disclosures regarding the investigation or any plans to address the ongoing issue of cross-border infiltration.

This incident underscores the challenges in controlling illegal immigration in Tripura, despite efforts from the security forces. The situation raises concerns over border security and the role of brokers facilitating these illegal crossings.
