Agartala: Oct 19: Today, the Sadar District Congress staged a protest at the Human Rights Commission in Shyamali Bazaar, alleging that the commission is not fulfilling its role amid daily human rights violations in the state. Party workers participated in the demonstration by placing black flags on the commission’s signboard.

A state Congress worker expressed concerns over the rising crime in Tripura, stating that incidents of murder, terror, and assaults on women are increasing daily. He criticized the state government, claiming that law and order have deteriorated despite the Chief Minister’s assurances to the contrary. The worker accused the Human Rights Commission of inaction, describing it as a “sleeping giant” in the face of these issues.

The protest highlighted a recent incident involving the rape of a 12-year-old girl, where the alleged lack of police action allowed the perpetrators to evade justice. The Congress worker emphasized that the Human Rights Commission’s silence on such matters has led to public disillusionment with the commission’s responsibilities. The state Congress has intensified its protests, with today’s demonstration marking a significant step in their campaign.
