Agartala: Sept 04: An agreement was signed today between the Government of India, the Government of Tripura, the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. As part of the peace accord, the Union Home Minister announced a financial package of Rs 250 crore for 328 insurgents who will surrender their arms.
At the signing ceremony, Union Home Minister Amit Shah described the peace agreement as a “milestone” that will end the insurgent movement in Tripura, concluding a 35-year-long armed struggle. He emphasized that efforts by the central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have bridged the gap between the North Eastern region and Delhi, improving transportation and strengthening relationships.
Welcoming Prime Minister Modi’s concepts of ‘Ashtalakshmi’ and ‘Purvodaya’, Shah highlighted that 12 peace agreements have been signed in the North Eastern region, leading to the surrender of about 10,000 militants and saving thousands of lives. The latest agreement with NLFT and ATTF will see 328 militants return to normal life, contributing to Tripura’s development. A financial package of Rs 250 crore has been sanctioned for this purpose.
Shah also referred to the success of the quadrilateral BROU agreement signed in 2020, which has enabled thousands to live independently. He assured that the agreement signed today will be properly implemented, fulfilling the aspirations of the Tiprasa people. The Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) has been withdrawn from Tripura, and the central government is committed to the socio-cultural and linguistic development of the North Eastern region.
Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha thanked Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Shah for fostering peace in the North Eastern region. He noted that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, numerous peace accords have resolved complex issues, and various schemes have been launched to improve the lives of people in remote areas. He welcomed the members of NLFT and ATTF to integrate into society and live prosperous and peaceful lives.
A delegation of 10 members from NLFT and ATTF attended the ceremony. NLFT (BM) Group Chief Vishwa Mohan Devabarma, Vice-President Upendra Reyang, and Alindra Reyang from ATTF were the main signatories.
NLFT leader Upendra Reyang expressed confidence in the central government and hoped for the successful implementation of the financial package for the welfare of the Tiprasa people. He urged Union Home Minister Shah to continue addressing the issues of the Tiprasa people for the overall development of the state.
