In a swift operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) apprehended nine individuals involved in smuggling and illegal border crossing. Among the detainees were eight Bangladeshi nationals and one Indian tout. Suspicion arose when they were observed loitering around the station premises. Their inconsistent statements about their intended destinations prompted further investigation.

Interrogation shed light on their intentions. The eight Bangladeshi women were waiting for a train bound for Mumbai and Pune. Lacking valid documents, they aimed to cross the border illegally. Police arrested Tania Hasan Sheikh (26), from Manirampur, Sathi Khatun (35), from Diyapur Adrasa, Sumy Sheikh (28), from Noakhali, Rupa Sheikh (26), from Iqbal Nagar,Rijowan Sheikh (27), from Haralia, Beauty Khatun (Tumpa) (27), from Sheikhghat, Supriya Sheikh (36), from Laskar Para.

The lone Indian tout, Sentu Kumar Deb (59), hails from Boxnagar West Para in Sepahijala district. All detainees will face legal proceedings, with a case registered against them at the Agartala GRP police station. They are scheduled to appear in court on Saturday, as informed by Agartala GRP police station OC Tapas Das.
