2 lakh fines collected in continuous raids of the Food Department: Food Minister

Agartala, August 3: The Food Department has raided 184 markets across the state in the last three months and imposed a fine of Tk 2,26,300 on traders and fined 58 people for irregularities. Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said this in a press conference at the Secretariat today.

On this day, he said, the food department has ordered to temporarily close 10 shops for selling adulterated food items and expired products and for widespread irregularities. Besides, the food department has raided 1789 shops out of 2056 fair price shops in the state. 277 ration dealers have been given show cause notices. Dealers have been fined Rs 1 lakh 4 thousand 471 and license of 5 ration shops have been canceled completely, he said.

The food minister claimed that such operations will continue in the coming days.
