Agartala: May 24:  A youth sustained serious injuries in a firing incident involving the Border Security Force (BSF) near the 189 Gate area of Boxnagar West Para late Monday night. The BSF reportedly opened fire while responding to an alleged smuggling attempt at the barbed wire fencing along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

The injured individual, identified as Rezaul Hossain of Ward 6, Boxnagar, was initially treated at the Boxnagar Primary Health Center before being referred to GB Hospital in Agartala, where he remains under medical supervision. His condition is reported to be serious.

According to confidential sources, Hossain was allegedly transporting a consignment of clothing using a guide rope when the BSF intervened. The force claims the action was defensive in nature.

The incident has sparked unrest in the Boxnagar West Para region, a locality frequently highlighted for smuggling activities due to gaps in the border fencing. In response, the 49th Battalion of the BSF has intensified patrolling and security measures along the border stretch.

Authorities have not released an official statement as investigations continue. The situation in the area remains tense.
