Agartala: Nov 26: On Tuesday, a woman was arrested by the police in Agartala for her involvement in the brown sugar trade, operating under the guise of selling tea. The woman, identified as Uma Malakar, was the main mastermind behind the operation, which involved selling brown sugar to various young individuals in the Golap Bagan area of the capital. The police, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid in the area and managed to arrest four young men—Rajesh Devnath, Bishwajit Majumdar, Jaydeb Das, and Osman Mia—who had procured brown sugar from Uma and were distributing it in different parts of Agartala.

During the raid, the police recovered 36 grams of brown sugar from the four men. Upon interrogation, they revealed that they had bought the narcotics from Uma at a lower price and were reselling it at a higher rate. The police then proceeded to Uma Malakar’s tea shop, where they arrested her and seized an additional 95 grams of brown sugar, along with Rs. 16,000 in cash. The police also recovered three mobile phones, a bike, and other items from the arrested individuals.

Despite the arrests, some brown sugar sellers managed to flee the scene. The police have identified their names and are actively searching for them. The Sub-Divisional Police Officer mentioned that women are increasingly becoming involved in the narcotics trade, with several recent arrests of young women in similar circumstances. All individuals involved, including Uma, are aged between 20 and 30, and the police suspect that they are operating with a high level of cunning and organization. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities focused on dismantling the entire network.
